My First Run: Subic International Marathon 2014 (SIM 2014)

This is my first time again that i joined a marathon. Its been a long time i have not join since i shifted sports to basketball during my twenty's, Badminton on my thirty's and now (back) on running. I feel like i'm a beginner again even i have been running in my teens though. With so much reading, watching and running/jogging to get my body to adapt to more practice and training (and hoping to have more serious endurance training) for the sport, i just got this chance to join this years SIM.

As i only joined to a 5K fun run, i felt again the feeling of joining this kind of event during my teen days. The fun atmosphere, lots of people watching, lots have joined as well, it was a very exciting feeling for me to have joined again to this kind of marathon event.

During my run, i have observed that runners were all excited to reach the half of their joined event like on the 5K. Some stop for the awhile and walk, some stop to gasp some more air for awhile and continue running again. Some were serious (just like me) to run non-stop and reach the finish line with interest on the time it takes them for their personal record. I am happy that i clocked 00:32:14 for 5K being a first timer/beginner. Now, i will aim for a 10K run.

How SIM started?

As i listen during the opening ceremony of the Subic International Marathon 2014, i just heard one speaker (which i couldn't remember his name) that before the establishment of the Subic International Marathon, the group that first did this was the PNP or the Philippine National Police wherein they came to Subic Bay Freeport to have their physical fitness for a month to trim or lessen their bellies and fats seriously to be fit as directed by their Superiors. And it turns out that this physical fitness including lots of running will be a successful endeavor to be a yearly event thus, they name it "Subic International Marathon" or SIM. Its been 12 years already that SIM was in existence.
