Ditch the High-Cal Drinks

As caloric as an ice cream sundae
We admit that iced-coffee concoctions and fruit smoothies are yummy treats. But a medium-size, 16-ounces coffee beverage racks up 400, 500 even 600 calories, says Elyssa Harlbut, a nutritionist in private practice in Westchester County, New York. A few calorie-skimming tricks: Order your coffee cooler with skim milk instead of whole and sans whipped cream and you'll subtract 200 calories. "Ask for two squirts of syrup instead of the usual six; each squirt has 20 calories," says Hurlbut. Knock 200-calories off your smoothie by requesting it be made with fruit and ice only. And downsize to a small, 12-ounce cup; it'll have 25 percent less calories.
